The Best Cleaning Routine For Your Home

In This post:

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to let our homes get a tad on the messy side. I have tried everything to keep the house always clean and realized it comes down to a few key details. Having these few easy times can mean having a home that is almost always clean. I’m mean, we’re not perfect, are we?

The Challenge of Our Busy Lives

Our lives are busier than ever, and finding a cleaning routine that seamlessly fits into our schedules can feel like a Herculean task. The key is to strike a balance between maintaining a clean and organized home without turning into a cleaning robot. I find it’s less about having to always clean and more about have a home that’s easy to clean.

The Best Cleaning Routine Unveiled

1. Daily Tasks for Tidiness

The cornerstone of the best cleaning routine is incorporating daily tasks into your schedule. Start small but be consistent. Take a few minutes each day to tidy up, whether it’s making the bed, doing a quick sweep of the kitchen, or wiping down surfaces. These small efforts will accumulate, preventing the daunting task of an all-day cleaning spree. For me, I use the app “Habit” and everyday I try to check off one of my tasks, which is a 15 minute clean. This for me usually means, having the kitchen and ensuite clean and putting away any clothes and tidying up sofa pillows.

2. Everything in Its Place

To maintain a tidy home, embrace the mantra: everything has a place. Invest time in organizing your belongings so that you and your family can easily find and return items to their designated spots. This not only streamlines your daily routine but also makes cleaning a breeze. This is probably the biggest ticket. Everything, and I mean everything should have a place.

3. The Bi-Annual Purge

Every 6-12 months, channel your inner minimalist and embark on a decluttering mission. Go through your belongings, assess what you truly need, and donate or discard the rest. I like to do this at the end of the year (before Christmas) and either in the Spring or the Fall.

4. Accessible Cleaning Supplies

Imagine this: a spill occurs, and you fumble through cabinets trying to find the elusive paper towels. Make your life easier by keeping cleaning products and rags easily accessible. Consider creating a cleaning caddy or allocating a space under the bathroom sink for quick access to essentials.

5. The Power of Scheduling

For those who thrive on structure, incorporating a schedule into your cleaning routine might be a game-changer. Whether it’s a physical checklist on the fridge or a shared digital dashboard, having a schedule can help you stay on top of tasks and involve your family in the process. Notion or a simple spreadsheet can be your trusty sidekick in the battle against dust bunnies.

6. Making Clean Fun for Kids

If you have little ones running around, turn cleaning into a family affair. Make it a game, set a timer, and watch as your kids eagerly join in on the cleaning festivities. Not only does this lighten your load, but it also instills a sense of responsibility in your children.
