Spring is around the corner, don’t look outside – I promise the snow will melt and it’s coming! Right now is the perfect time to springify your home. One of the best ways to do this is by incorporating floral patterns into your decor. From subtle accents to bold statements, floral patterns can add freshness, color, and a sense of whimsy to any space. In this guide, I’ll share some ways you can infuse your home with fun florals whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to refresh your existing decor.
1. Start Small with Accessories
If you’re new to incorporating floral patterns into your decor, starting small is a great way to dip your toes into this design trend. Begin by adding floral-printed accessories such as throw pillows, blankets, or curtains to your living room or bedroom. These small touches can instantly liven up a space and add a pop of color and pattern without overwhelming the room. If this is the first time you’re introducing florals, I suggest starting with florals on a small scale. This is a pattern that can take a bit to warm up to, and you need to get it just right before falling in love with it.
2. Create a Focal Point with Wallpaper
For those who are ready to make a bolder statement, consider using floral wallpaper to create a gorgeous focal point in your home. Whether you opt for a large-scale floral print or a more delicate pattern, wallpaper adds the right amount of drama to a space. Bathrooms, laundry rooms, or kid’s rooms would be the first places I would start with floral wallpaper. If you become obsessed, you can add it to other spaces down the road.
3. Mix and Match Patterns
Don’t be afraid to mix and match different floral patterns to create visual interest and depth in your decor. I know there are a lot of designers who will mix floral prints. I prefer to mix a floral with a different pattern like stripes or geometric patterns. Just be sure to keep the color palette cohesive to avoid a chaotic look.
4. Bring the Outdoors In with Floral Artwork
Another way to incorporate floral patterns into your spring decor is by incorporating floral artwork into your home. Whether it’s a painting, print, or photograph, floral artwork can add a touch of nature and beauty to any room. Hang a statement piece above the sofa or bed for a striking focal point, or create a gallery wall with a collection of smaller floral prints for an eclectic and personalized look.
5. Refresh Your Table with Floral Tableware
Okay this one might be my favorite! Elevate your springtime table settings by incorporating floral-patterned tableware into your dining decor. From plates and bowls to napkins and tablecloths, there are countless ways to infuse your dining table with floral charm. This is not only perfect for holidays like Easter or Mother’s day, but can add a bit of sexiness to a summer dinner party or fun to a casual brunch.
6. Bring Spring to Your Bedroom with Floral Bedding
Admitely, this one would be last on the list for my personal home. However, I have seen this done beautifully. There are a few ways to add florals to your bedding. You could start with throw pillows or blankets, and then work up from there. My suggestion would be that, if you are adding floral pillows to the bed, just start with a few and have the rest of the pillows be done in a coordinating color. I also prefer florals with a darker background. To me, this just looks more interesting, unexpected and gives it just enough “masculinity” that it can work in lots of different spaces.
7. Incorporate Floral Rugs for a Soft Touch
Add warmth and texture to your floors with the addition of a floral-patterned rug. Whether you prefer a traditional Persian rug with intricate floral motifs or a modern rug with a bold, abstract floral design, a floral rug can anchor the room and tie together your decor scheme. Place a floral rug in the living room to add color and pattern to the space, or use one in the bedroom to soften the look of hardwood floors and create a cozy atmosphere.
8. Bring Life to Your Space with Floral Plants
Finally, no spring decor is complete without the addition of fresh flowers and greenery. Incorporate floral plants such as tulips, daisies, or hydrangeas into your decor to bring a touch of nature indoors. Arrange fresh flowers in vases and place them on tables, mantels, or window sills for a burst of color and fragrance.
Incorporating floral patterns into your spring decor is a wonderful way to infuse your home with warmth, color, and personality. Whether you choose to start small with accessories or make a bold statement with wallpaper, there are endless ways to embrace floral charm in your interior design. By following these tips and experimenting with different patterns and textures, you can create a space that blooms with beauty and reflects the joy of the spring season.
